Enjoy this popular minstrel song written by Anthony Winnemore in 1846.   Edison described this as an "old, old" song in 1906 (see below), therefore it is fair to now add at least one more 'old' to the song's description.   So, this old, old, old song - popular in the mid-1800s, and again in the early 1900s - has another chance to tickle new ears in the early 2000s.

The lyrics are available, courtesy of the University of Virginia.

No. 9432, "Stop That Knocking at the Door," by the Edison Male Quartette, was especially arranged for our quartette.   This old, old minstrel song was originally sung by the "Christy Minstrels" many years ago.   It is probably new to many of the present generation.   A. F. Winnermore wrote the words and music.   We have had many requests for this selection.   It was a song of great popularity in its day, and there is still in the melody that something that will make it just as popular with those who will perhaps now hear it for the first time.   Sung without accompaniment.
